What We Do

Low Ding Zone, the World’s First Bass-Only Handbell Ensemble, started as an experiment by Bay Bells members for the 2006 Area XII conference at Belmont, California. Low Ding Zone generally plays only on notes at or below middle C, opening up new possibilities by restricting its musical operating space. As Mies van der Rohe and Buckminster Fuller often philosophized, “Less is More.” Because of the nature of their repertoire, Low Ding Zone constantly explores and stretches the technical and musical envelope of bass ringing, and has found that “impossible” often is not what it seems.

Low Ding Zone can bring excitement, and perhaps a new brand of insanity, to your musical world:

  • Concerts:    Low Ding Zone is building repertoire to play full concerts of their own specialized material for your event.
  • Accompaniment:    Low Ding Zone can perform as accompanist for other musicians, notably instrumental and vocal soloists.
  • Your Own Bass Section:    Ever wish you had someone to ring those extra-low notes on your bell scores? Low Ding Zone can augment your bell choir by adding depth and punch to your concert. We’ll even play treble bells sometimes (if we can see them)!
  • Education:    Low Ding Zone can help your bass ringers (and other ringers too!). Our Bass Camp curriculum is designed to teach you the concepts of bass ringing quickly and effectively. They also teach many other handbell topics too, so they can be a clinician package for your event.
